About
The performance Dostoevsky’s Angels is based on selected excerpts from Fyodor Dostoevsky’s novels The Idiot, The Brothers Karamazov and Demons, the novella White Nights, and the short story The Beggar Boy at Christ’s Christmas Tree. A diverse cast of Dostoevsky’s characters comes to life on stage: Nastenka from White Nights, Prince Myshkin (The Idiot), Nikolai Stavrogin (Demons), Grushenka (The Brothers Karamazov), and the little boy from The Beggar Boy at Christ’s Christmas Tree.nnAccording to Dostoevsky, within every character he created, just as within each of us, lie the “seeds of another world”. It is through these seeds that the foundations of truth and wisdom, conscience and freedom of choice, love and faith exist within us.
“…God took seeds from other worlds and sowed them upon this Earth, and cultivated His garden, and everything that could grow did grow. Yet all that has grown lives and remains alive only through a sense of connection with other mysterious worlds. If that sense weakens or disappears within you, then all that has grown within you also dies…”
